The team at Integrated Rehabilitation Services has proudly served communities across Connecticut for over 19 years.
It has been an honor to provide highly skilled physical therapy to patients recovering from injury, surgery or managing chronic health conditions for nearly two decades.
Due to our strong reputation in the community and with local doctors, we recently had the great privilege of being asked to provide on-site physical therapy services at Lighthouse Surgery Center, a new ambulatory orthopedic and spine center in Hartford.
Integrated Rehab officially began providing care in our new clinic within the Lighthouse Surgery Center (across from St. Francis Hospital) on February 28, 2020.
As a privately owned company, Integrated Rehab has always valued our relationships with the local orthopedic surgeons in our communities. Based on our long history of providing quality orthopedic care, we were humbled to be asked by the physicians of Lighthouse Surgery Center to be the exclusive provider of physical therapy services to their patients. We are looking forward to participating in the outpatient surgery care model by delivering immediate post-operative physical therapy treatment in an effort to maximize patient outcomes.

Our Role in the Surgery Process
Across the country, we have seen an emergence of outpatient surgery centers with attached physical therapy clinics. This relationship is different than the typical hospital setting, where patients stay overnight and receive post-operative physical therapy in the days following surgery.
In the outpatient setting, patients undergo orthopedic surgery and are introduced to physical therapy concepts for recovery, all in one day. We are honored to join one of the only outpatient surgery centers with PT on-site in Connecticut!
Dr. Michael Joyce, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lighthouse Surgery Center, felt it was critical to have physical therapy on-site to help post-operative patients with their initial home exercises.
The surgeons of Lighthouse Surgery Center perform outpatient orthopedic procedures such as total joint replacements and spinal surgeries, and the Integrated physical therapists provide education and critical physical therapy services to patients before they leave the facility on the day of surgery.
This opportunity allows us to explain the importance of at-home exercises to be initiated the same day, along with critical activities of daily living including crutch training, stair management and transfer training, which some people might otherwise skip.
Physical therapy is essential to the healing process. Skipping exercises, whether due to lack of proper guidance or inadequate access to care, can have a detrimental effect on future functionality.
What Patients Can Expect
Immediately following discharge, post-surgery patients will come directly into our physical therapy space for instruction on walking, using the stairs, making safe transfers and performing other daily activities.
They will learn stretches and exercises to help regain movement, improve balance and flexibility, and strengthen the surrounding muscles, which may have to compensate for the weakened area. Providing patients the appropriate education post-surgery sets them on the right path to recovery!
Excited for the Future
In these early stages, Americo Rodrigues (PT, OCS, Cert. MDT, CMP, CIDN), is the lead therapist in our new facility, as we work to develop the most efficient and streamlined treatment process. We are excited for more team members to get involved in this new environment.
Our clinical staff will have the unique opportunity to talk with physicians and see the latest and greatest outpatient surgeries being performed from the observation room.
Our company was founded on four principles: Community involvement, patient care, staff education and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. We have been recognized as a Top Workplace in CT for nine consecutive years and our staff holds many professional certifications, including Certified Strength and Conditioning, Mulligan Concept and The McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy™.
