Gray Institute for Functional Transformation (GIFT) is a 40-week mentorship in Applied Functional Science® for movement professionals who deliver the highest standard of care in knowledge, analytical ability and the hands-on manual skills necessary to apply and integrate its core principles.

Functional Approach to Medicine

While traditional medicine focuses on the injured body part and solely treats this area, the functional approach involves:

  • Looking for the source of the damage or weakness
  • Analyzing how the patient moves this body part and its effect on the whole body
  • Correcting the problem vs. just treating the symptoms

How to Become a Fellow of Applied Functional Science®

The purpose of GIFT is to help practitioners better understand what motions should happen from head to toe during different activities. Proper movement analysis can create stability for patients and improve their overall function or performance in a certain sport. Physical therapists who become credentialed as a Fellow of Applied Functional Science® (FAFS) and receive certification in Functional Manual Reaction® (FMR) can set themselves apart as a trusted practitioner.
